Franko Burolo

Franko Burolo is a poet, translator and sometimes musician; he's also a PhD candidate in literature and culture. Raised in Umag, currently living in Zagreb, Croatia. He was a co-founder of the Umag's Movement for Freedom (UPS! -- Umaški pokret za slobodu) and of the Cultural Association of Youth “Fobija” in Umag. He graduated in Italian and South Slavic languages ​​and literatures in 2015 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb with a thesis on “Edoardo Sanguineti and Tomaž Šalamun, a Renewal of the Avant-garde”. In Zagreb, he participates as an author in underground literary evenings. In the fall of 2019, he received a scholarship from the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe “BAYHOST” and enrolled in a research doctoral study in literature and culture at the University of Bamberg. In 2021, he got a job as an assistant at the Department of South Slavic Languages ​​and Literatures at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where he teaches Slovenian and comparative South Slavic literature. He has also transferred his doctoral studies to the same faculty, as part of which he is conducting research for his dissertation about "Punk and Avant-garde in European Pop Culture". He also collaborates with the Croatian Center for Anarchist Studies.
